The Umbria region, with 16,500 hectares of vineyards located in the heart of Italy.
Vineyard in Umbria there were on both sides of the Tiber before the Romans at the time of the Etruscans and Umbrians. Archaeological finds and about 3000 years old, driven into the volcanic basement rocks are for historical witnesses.
Both the landscape and the climate and soil conditions is very similar to the area east of the adjacent region of Tuscany. The cold months are rainy, summers are sunny and cooled by wind. Many vineyards have drained loamy and sandy soil.
It is dominated by the red grape
Sagrantino, Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo and Montepulciano and the white Grechetto, Trebbiano and Verdello.
The famous
Orvieto produced for centuries accounts for around two-thirds of the DOC production quantity.
