Piedmont

Piedmont is Italy's largest administrative unit and is located in northwest Italy. Capital is Turin.
In the provinces of Alessandria, Asti, Cuneo, Torino and Vercelli are 54,800 hectares available, where 3,267,000 hectoliters of wine produced. The average share of quality wines is about 35%.
Focus of viticulture is the Langhe region, a hilly landscape near the town of Alba, also home of the white truffle. Here are the Barolo and Barbaresco, two of the great wines of Italy, are produeced. Both types of wine have undergone major changes in recent years. The progressive producers continue to prepare great wines, but they are more accessible and more balanced than before.
The simple Dolcetto is still very popular, but steadily gaining profile and quality. Coronation of the work is certainly the recognition of Dolcetto di Dogliani Superiore DOCG for - wine in July 2005 and the Dolcetto Superiore di Dogliani in September 2008.
The 12 DOCG - Areas: Asti, Barbaresco, Barbera d'Asti, Monferrato Berbera, Barolo, Brachetto d'Acqui, Dolcetto Superiore di Dogliani Dogliani o, o Dolcetto Superiore di Ovada Ovada, Gattinara, Gavi, Ghemme, Roero.

Piedmont is the most important Vermouth-manufacturers in the world. Vermouth contains at least 70% of wine. The best-known manufacturers Martini & Rossi, Cinzano.
