Requirements for “Sekt Austria Grand Reserve”

Harvesting and pressing (yield rate not exceeding 50%) of the grapes in a single community, hand-picking (maximum bulk height of 35 cm in the harvest boxes) and whole-grape pressing. The production is carried out exclusively by traditional bottle fermentation method (“Méthode Traditionelle”) with a minimum of 36 months storage on the yeast and a maximum residual sugar content of 12 g/l.

The indication of a federal state as a protected designation of origin is obligatory, as is the indication of a municipality or part of a municipality. The indication of a large location or vineyard is permitted.

At least 85% of the grapes must come from the specified municipality or part of the municipality. However, the name of a municipality or of a Land may be indicated even if not more than 15% of the grapes come from a municipality adjacent to the municipality which gives the name, which may also be located in another Land, provided that the vineyards are managed from a holding situated in the municipality which gives the name and the grapes have been taken there for processing. The term “hand-picking” is allowed.
