Verdejo
Verdejo, the fruity and tasty grape variety originally comes from North Africa, but has been cultivated almost exclusively in the Castilian D.O.s Cigales, Toro, Tierra de Léon and Rueda since the 11th century. The more recent history begins in the 1970s when Marqués de Riscal was looking for an area for the cultivation of white wines with high quality requirements. Enologists became aware of the Verdejo grape variety and recognized the enormous potential of this grape in modern winegrowing. Verdejo should usually be drunk young. Top qualities have good aging potential and develop a nutty, creamy character in the bottle after a few years.
