NIEDERÖSTERREICH (LOWER AUSTRIA)

NIEDERÖSTERREICH (LOWER AUSTRIA)

Lower Austria is Austria's largest quality wine-growing region. Under his name, a rich potential of wine and wine styles of local wine rarities, but also international grape varieties.
The eight specific wine-growing regions in Lower Austria, with their names such as
Wachau in the west and Carnuntum in the east, can be roughly divided into three climate zones: the Weinviertel in the north, the Danube region with its side valleys Kamptal, Kremstal, Traisental and Wagram west of Vienna and the Pannonian Lower Austria Thermenregion in the southeast.

More sub catagories:
Archaeologists have for many years been promoting evidence of Roman culture from the historic grounds of Carnuntum. But just as astonishing are the "mineral resources" of the approximately 906 hectares, especially red wines typical of the area. As the "Rubin Carnuntum" with the symbol of the Heidentor, they reinforce the identity of this up-and-coming area, supported by a number of dynamic winegrowing personalities.

Carnuntum
The namesake is the river Kamp, the main town Langenlois is Austria's largest wine town - and with 3,907 hectares of vineyards and numerous internationally known top farms is the Kamptal one of the most successful wine regions in the country. Culture and tourism are also of particular importance here. The name Kamptal DAC stands for wines from Grüner Veltliner or Riesling, either of the classic-medium-weight type or as a powerful-dry reserve.

The 2,368 hectares of vineyards of the Kremstal spread over three different zones: the Kremstal and the historic city of Krems, whose western part called "stone" connects directly to the Wachau, the eastern adjoining mighty loess and the small wine areas south of the Danube around the monumental Göttweig Abbey. Since 2007, Kremstal DAC stands for spicy Grüner Veltliner and elegant, mineral Rieslings, which come in addition to the fresh, classic line as a strong reserve wines on the market.

The wine-growing region Thermenregion was created with the wine law in 1985, when the areas Gumpoldskirchen and Bad Vöslau were merged.
2,181 hectares of vines lean against the slopes of the Vienna Woods, from the outskirts of Vienna along a range of hills with the Anninger as the highest elevation to the south of Baden.
Still today, in the northern part of Gumpoldskirchen, the white wine dominates with the autochthonous varieties Zierfandler (Spätrot) and Rotgipfler, while in the south the red wine dominates with the varieties St. Laurent and Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir).

The youngest winegrowing area in Austria - it exists in this form only since 1995 - is also one of the smallest in the country with around 815 hectares of vineyards, but in a relationship very large: Here, the Green Veltliner leads the regiment.
Since the year 2006 typical fruity, spicy Grüner Veltliner and robust, mineral Rieslings come under the name
Traisental DAC on the market.

World cultural heritage and well-being landscape - that's the Wachau, the narrow Danube valley between Melk and Krems. On 1,344 hectares, partly on steep terraces, are mainly Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. The best locations provide some of the largest white wines in the world with decades of development potential.

"Vinea Wachau" members distinguish their wines according to the natural alcohol content in 3 brands.
- fragrant light wines to 11.5% denominated
Steinfeder (according the feather grass "stipa pennata").
- classic category (11.5 to 12.5% alcohol) traded under
Federspiel
- powerful reserve wines are called
Smaragd (from 12.5% vol.)

The wine-growing area "Donauland" was renamed in 2007 in Wagram. In this area, 2,720 hectares of vineyards spread over two very different zones: North of the Danube extends east of the Kamptal then the actual Wagram, a mighty terrain level, about 30 km to the east. South of the Danube, lie the small wine villages of the Tullnerfeld, but also the historic wine town Klosterneuburg at the gates of Vienna.

The Weinviertel is a household word to every Austrian wine lover, but the international reputation of Austria's largest wine-growing region is also growing.
The vineyard area of 13,858 hectares is an essential factor, but the recipe for success is called Grüner Veltliner, namely in the area-typical characteristics as
