Graves ( Pessac, Sauternes )

Graves is an old vineyard in the Bordeaux wine region, with about 4,650 hectares (of which, the regional appellation Graves 3,000 ha).

Since the 4th March 1937 has the appellation of the status of Appellation d'Origine. The name derives from the stony bottom (gravier: Pebble), which is called in the local language de Las Grabas Bourdeus. The nutrient-poor soil is littered with stones. These stones store the solar energy of the day and release the heat at night from. This creates a very favorable micro-climate that is beneficial to the vines.

The area extends from the city of Bordeaux in the north to the south on a community Langon 55 km long and max. 10 km strip. The area west and south of pine forests protected. East is the River Garonne as a heat store.
